about

The past decade found me traveling quite a lot and I spent considerable time on trains, planes and in hotel rooms in remote corners of the earth. I used those spans for writing and collecting my thoughts in periods of reflection and consideration of what lay ahead. There is such a brief time that we are here on this earth. It is fortunate that technology allowed me a small, portable means of recording what I collected. These ideas were then taken out to my personal workspace in N.Y. and produced into their present forms. Analog and digital instruments, vintage and new, various odd folk instruments and percussion pieces all found their places. There is nothing, though, that I get more satisfaction from than arranging with my tape replay instruments, the Mellotron and Chamberlin. They instantly put me in a special space that I've been long acquainted with. I've had the pleasure of playing with an experimental group of musicians that started up in the American Museum of Natural History and we performed in underground situations in and around New York City. I was inspired by several of the artists I met in this fashion and they appear as guests on "The Mortal Coil".
